It has been said that, “success is the end result of creativity and all of the hard work around it.” Though both creativity and hard work seem to be unfamiliar concepts in Hip-Hop these days, Kwik Entertainment knows more than a little about both.
Hailing from Kenosha, WI, a town bordering Illinois, it took ingenuity and perseverance for Smoot to create his own lane in a culture, which only recognized East, West, and now Southern talent. Yet despite an absence of hometown or even “home state” heroes to look up to in the music business, Smoot saw geography as a positive factor. We’re in the middle of the map, so we hear a little bit of everything,” he explains. “So if you come to the Midwest, not everybody sounds the same.” As a result of this exposure he sites a varied list of influences including Jay-Z, Tupac, and Scarface. Smoot quickly developed a lyrical style that accurately spoke to his personal experiences while appealing to a universal audience. Being further inspires by Chicago’s developing Hip-Hop scene and artists like Kanye West, Smoot decided to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
While attending Santa Monica College, Smoot took advantage of the change in scenery to push his career to the next level. Before the age of 21, he had appeared on stage with some of the biggest names in the game. Never the kind to wait for a “big break”, Smoot used his growing influence and connections in the industry to develop himself as a brand. “The music thing is my first options, but it’s also a way to get my foot in the door,” he states. “There’s a lot of things I wanna do.” That desire is one towards which he has already taken action, effectively redefining Smoot as “So Many Other Options.”
After appearing in the direct to DVD documentary Hip Hop Story I – featuring Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G. and many more. Smoot proceeded to create the Hip Hop Story series. Produced through his multimedia company, Kwik Entertainment, the series was distributed nationally through major retail chains like Best Buy and Target and went on to sell over 400,000 copies.
For the time being, Smoot, who has more DVD projects in post - productions also plans on producing theatrical releases, has since re-shifted his focus back to music. His 5th & 6th album, “Go Hard Or Go Home” and “Distinguished”, is available online now and is a true testament not only to his love of the game but also to his business acumen. The independent album, which is also to be released through Kwik Entertainment, boasts production credits from Victory Lap Productions. Smoot previous albums feature the likes of multi-platinum producers Tha Bizness, Swizz beatz, and Mannie Fresh with guest appearances by Chamillionaire, Scarface, Ray J, Jadakiss and Slim Thug, just to name a few. All of this comes as an end result of Smoot’s undeniable talent, unconventional thinking and dedication to the game.
That ladies and gentlemen is how success is born!
